Highway Roop Precision Technologies, the Indian precision-components manufacturer backed by Carlyle, announced on September 29, 2026 that it has completed the acquisition of Chamundi Die Cast Private Limited, an Indian producer of complex, precision-machined aluminum die cast components for automotive and industrial applications. Financial terms were not disclosed. For buyers of aluminum die castings in North America and Europe, the deal matters because Chamundi is an export-oriented supplier with established customer relationships on both continents, and it now sits inside a private-equity platform whose stated goal is scale.
Chamundi Adds High-Pressure and Gravity Die Casting to the Platform
Chamundi, founded in 1985, runs an integrated operation in South India covering tool design and manufacturing, high-pressure and gravity die casting, precision machining, powder coating and assembly. The acquisition plugs these processes into Highway Roop's existing forging and precision-machining business, which supplies steering, transmission and powertrain components for internal-combustion, hybrid and electric vehicles.
| Highway Roop (existing) | Chamundi (added) | |
|---|---|---|
| Core processes | Forging, precision machining | High-pressure die casting, gravity die casting, precision machining |
| Supporting operations | Component assembly for steering, transmission, powertrain | Tool design and manufacturing, powder coating, assembly |
| Markets served | Global OEMs, torque and control applications | India, North America, Europe; growing EV component portfolio |
Chamundi's leadership will retain an equity stake in the combined entity. Managing Director Yasin Khan said the company built its business over four decades on engineering capability and long-standing customer relationships, and that Highway Roop's scale would help deepen those relationships.
Carlyle Builds a Scaled Precision Manufacturing Platform in India
The acquisition is a deliberate platform move rather than a one-off purchase. Amit Jain, Partner and Head of Carlyle India Advisors, said the transaction reflects Carlyle's continued commitment to building a scaled, differentiated precision manufacturing platform in India, with the ambition of making Highway Roop one of the country's leading precision manufacturers serving automotive and industrial customers globally. Highway Roop chairman Mohit Oswal framed the deal the same way: a milestone toward a diversified platform anchored in mission-critical torque and control applications. Group CEO Dharmesh Arora emphasized the operational logic: Chamundi's South India base diversifies the manufacturing footprint, brings production closer to key customers, and strengthens supply-chain resilience.
Export-Oriented Aluminum Capacity Consolidates Under PE Ownership
- Die casting M&A is spreading beyond North America and Europe. After two years of casting-industry consolidation led by Western deals, private equity is now assembling casting capability inside India's supply base. Expect more Indian die casters to field buyout approaches.
- One-stop forging-plus-casting platforms change RFQ dynamics. A supplier that can quote a forged, cast, machined and coated component from one group shortens vendor lists. Buyers running multi-process parts should expect bundled quotes to become more common, and more aggressive.
- The China-plus-one option gains a scaled, export-proven candidate. Chamundi already ships to North American and European customers. Under Carlyle ownership, that export capacity gets capital behind it, which strengthens India's case as an alternative sourcing region for aluminum die castings.
- EV lightweighting is the demand engine behind the deal. Both companies named lightweight engineered solutions and EV components as the growth rationale. Capacity for thin-wall, machined aluminum castings is being bought up before EV programs peak, not after.
How We Read This at Meituo
Platform consolidation like this confirms what we see in our own quoting: buyers increasingly want one supplier who can carry a part from tooling through casting, machining and finishing, with documented quality at each step. That is how we run our aluminum die casting programs, with 20 machines from 160T to 1650T, in-house mold making, CNC machining and finishing under one roof, and spectrometer verification on every melt lot. If you are reviewing your supplier base in light of this consolidation, or comparing China and India routings for the same part, send us the drawing and annual volume and our engineers will return a manufacturing capabilities and cost assessment.
